Hello world- I would like to announce that I now have an official website at www.ulibromme.com where I will be posting race results, schedules, updates, photos and more. I will still be blogging on here and write race reports. A blog link from my website will direct you here as well. The site is still a work in progress but I am proud to say I made it all by myself in just 3 days :) Go ahead, have a look around and thanks for stopping by!

Colorado Winter Training
Since my last post I have enjoyed some awesome training days outside in 60 degrees and short sleeves and shorts and was able to ride my bike in my summer apparel for a few days as well. But, as anyone who lives in Colorado knows, the weather can change in an instant. And that spring tease turned into a deep freeze in less than 48 hrs for us here this week.
Since moving to Boulder almost 7 years ago, this is the coldest weather I have ever experienced here. On Monday I actually skipped my run (gasp!) because it was simply too slick out on the roads, thanks to sleet that froze. (Even the yaktrax slid like ice skates) Tuesday I ran on the treadmill for the first time in three years I think, and it wasn't too bad. I might just incorporate a session every now and then into my regular training. Really helps with keeping pace on hard efforts.
We dipped down to -8F for a high on Wednesday and preceeded that up with -18F the previous night. Since the sun was out however, I decided to bundle up and head outside for my run. ( I think it was -10F) As the saying goes: "there is no inclement weather, just bad clothing choices" :) So I put on four layers on top including a fleece and a windproof cycling jacket, compression socks for extra layering around the legs and windproof pants, and another pair of socks for keeping the feet warm. I also made sure to layer up the head with headband and a hat, and topped it off with gloves plus windproof cycling gloves. 15min into my run I was toasty and an hour later I was done and here is the proof. Guess I look a little frozen, ha.
I've been spending quality time on the trainer as well and try to remember that each session has a purpose and will pay off later this season. Riding the trainer can obviously get rather monotonous, so good (and sometimes trashy) TV entertainment always helps.
Lastly, I took a little video today at the pool to show those who don't live in Boulder what it's like to swim here in the winter :) At Flatirons Athletic Club, we have a 25m year-round heated outdoor pool (unless the pump breaks, in which case it gets chilly) I swam three days this week in sub 0 degrees F (and mostly at night when it's dark) and lets just say that it gets cold real fast when walking back inside after a swim without anything on your body except for a swim suit. Oh, and the metal door handle will stick to wet hands, ouch!
Yes, sometimes I wish I was training in a warmer climate and had the luxury of going outside for every ride and keep the tan lines going all year, BUT I don't have that option and so like many others, I make do with what Mother Nature throws our way. It's Winter and it's Colorado, so this is what it's supposed to be like. Besides, it keeps the reigns on just a little longer before training goes full throttle in the spring. Tough training conditions make tough race conditions that much easier :)
